What is Art in the Park?
Art in the Park, Olean’s original outdoor art show, celebrates its 62nd anniversary this year, and the Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) is once again pleased to be the producer of this historic event. Held in conjunction with Taste of Olean, this year’s event will be held on Sunday, July 24th from 12pm-6pm on the Olean campus of Jamestown Community College.
The artists lined up for the show include: Cherie Antle; Courtney Blackmon; Preeti Blaggan; Erin Busch; Ron DeMattio; Alex Derwick; Debra Eck; Sean Huntington; Mary Ann Jankowski; Heather Lee; Dawn Lombardi; John Garrett Loveless; Keith McKale; Kristina McLeod; Jennifer Miller; Ronald and Amy Peterson; Jessie Slattery; Dee Smith Cheryl Tome; Mike Weishan; and Wild Heart Unlimited.
Art in the Park is a one-day juried outdoor art exhibition dedicated to excellence in the visual arts as well as enhancing and promoting the visual arts and the talented artists in the area. This outdoor event attracts over 6,000 people with a complementary audience capture thanks to these multiple events occurring at the same time. Art in the park provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with regional artists, and the 2011 event will again include live mural painting as well as additional family entertainment.
The Cattaraugus County Arts Council is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the creation, presentation, and appreciation of the arts in the Southern Tier. Located in Allegany, NY, CCAC is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts, Cattaraugus County, and members and donors. For more information on CCAC or for information on Community Art and Pottery Studio (CAPS) classes, see www.myartscouncil.net.
WHAT IS ART IN THE PARK
The Annual Art in the Park is held in July on the Jamestown Community College Cattaraugus Campus in downtown Olean, in conjunction with the Taste of Olean. Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) and its corporate partners sponsored the area’s premier art show. Watercolors, acrylics, oils, sculpture, basket weaving, and pottery were featured.
Art in the Park is a juried fine arts show with a long-standing tradition of showcasing the finest art in southwestern New York and northwestern Pennsylvania. Artists and artisans, who have not previously exhibited in the show, are asked to submit three labeled photos of individual work and one of your booths. Photos should accurately represent the work you intend to display. Artists and artisans who have previously exhibited are exempt from the jury process. To be juried for the show, the criteria are as follows: All work must be original and executed by the accepted artist. Work produced with commercial kits, mold, patterns, plans, prefabricated forms, or commercial methods is not eligible. T-shirts, commercial clothing, and reproductions are not eligible.
Limited edition prints are acceptable, hand pulled, signed, and numbered by the artist. Prints of photographs made from the artist’s original negative must be limited to an edition of no more than 250 from one image (negative) inclusive of all sizes, must be hand processed, signed and numbered by the artist.
Ceramic works must be handmade by the artist. If multiple pieces of the same design are displayed, each must be signed. Only artists who have been accepted in the jewelry category are permitted to display and sell jewelry. Paintings, graphics, prints, and photographs must be appropriately framed or matted, and must be displayed in a suitable portfolio or stand.
Taste of Olean vendors, entertainment, and demonstrations round out the day. For more information on the Taste of Olean, call Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce at 716-372-4433 or email taste@oleanny.com .
