More than 100 Volunteers Help Decorate the Park and More than 30 Organizations Help Decorate The Flower Baskets and Barrels

Santa Claus is expected in Olean less than 10 days from now, but Saturday, November 8, he had more than 100 volunteers assist with putting up the decorations in Lincoln and War Veterans Park, in Olean.  Seventeen organizations assisted with the decorations: Olean Community School/Americore Group; Cattaraugus County Association of Realtors; PizzaLand; Southern Tier Catholic School; Archbishop Walsh; Home Depot; Even Start; Transfiguration Church; St. Bonaventure University Alpha Phi Omega; Checkmate Contracting; Olean Girl Scouts; Olean YMCA OASIS; the Olean Rotary Club; City of Olean; Stroehmann’s Bakeries; the Southern Tier Military Support Group; Advanced Monolythic Ceramics; and Olean Exchange Club.

The Tradition of the Santa Claus Lane Parade

With just over a week to go till the parade, officials from Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce have registered more than forty-six units for the upcoming Santa Claus Lane Parade on Friday, November 28 in which Santa Claus lights thousands of lights in downtown Olean.   The ever-popular Parade is the official  kick-off to the holiday season in the area.

Santa Claus Lane Parade Applications Deadline

Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce continues to take float applications for the Santa Claus Lane Parade.  The Santa Claus Lane Parade is always the highlight of the holiday season, and will be held on the Friday, November 28 in downtown Olean, beginning at 7  PM.  The Cattaraugus County Bicentennial Advisory Committee is working with the 2008 Santa Claus Lane Parade Committee to embellish the already existing traditional Santa Claus Lane Parade with a bicentennial motif interwoven with the traditional parade activities.

Holiday Essay Contest Deadline Looms

Children who live in Cattaraugus County are invited to write an essay about the December holidays -- What is so special about the holidays in Cattaraugus County?  This essay can be written at school or at home. The top three winners will be invited to the Annual Santa Claus Lane parade and will then help Santa and Mayor David Carucci light the holiday decorations.

GOACC Announces L.O.U.I.E. Recipient

The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce will honor the contributions of St. Bonaventure University President Sr. Margaret Carney, O.S.F., S.T.D., with the 2008 L.O.U.I.E. Award during GOACC's upcoming Annual Dinner.  The award (Love of Olean United In Enterprise) will be the 19th presented since its inception and is bestowed upon an individual who symbolizes the enterprising spirit for the greater Olean community, qualities that were embodied in the life of Louis Marra.

Holiday Decorations Downtown

The Santa Claus Lane committee needs your help to decorate North Union Street this year.  The City of Olean placed rod iron flower baskets on the street poles and decorated them with flowers in May.  Last year, the Beef and Barrel Restaurant decorated the baskets in front of their restaurant with pine boughs, holiday ribbons, and flowers.  It made the baskets look very festive and creative!

Tenth Santa Claus Lane Ornament Now Available

Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce has unveiled its newest Santa Claus Lane ornament, a depiction of the Community Bank Building.  Through the ornament sales, holiday lights are funded and can be lit in Olean from November to early January.  The ornament, the tenth in a series created by artist Kathleen McDonald, is $20.00.
