2011 Squirrel Calendar and Squirrel Book Now Available
Woodland in the City (Woodland) and the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) have teamed up again and created the 2011 Woodland in the City Squirrel Calendar. For the last two years, Woodland and GOACC created a calendar featuring the squirrels. The 2008 calendar highlighted photos taken by Olean resident, Dan Jordan, along with details on each of the squirrels such as artist, sponsor, location, and reasons why it was created. The calendar was a hit -- selling out of the 150 copies published. 2009’s calendar featured the squirrels but from a different angle -- their tails! The entire squirrel is the artist’s work station and most of the squirrels have very detailed tails which most often times go unnoticed. Tales (essays) from local folks on the squirrels - why do you like the squirrels, which one is your favorite and why, what squirrels are missing, etc., were also included.
For 2011, the calendar features the local community in photos with the squirrels, and all 29 squirrels including the three new squirrels since last year’s calendar highlighted. Facts and figures on the squirrels including their unique coloring, eating habits, origin of name and even the date of National Squirrel Appreciation Day are listed. A map depicting locations of all squirrels is included. The calendar, sold at the GOACC office, sells for $10.
Woodland and GOACC also have produced the official Woodland in the City Squirrel Book. The booklet is full colo
r 8.5 x 5.5 inch, 40-page book showcasing each squirrel in the Woodland in the City art project. The book introduces the reader to the squirrels in all their variety, explaining why they look as they do, location, sponsor, and other nutty facts. The book also includes the essays from last year’s Tales and Tails Calendar and a map on the squirrel locations. The book, sold at the GOACC office, sells for $10
The Chamber regular hours are 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Monday-Friday with special holiday weekday hours December 17 - 23 from 8 AM until 5:30 PM. On Christmas Eve, GOACC will close at 11:30 AM.
