Home Show was a Great Kickoff for Home/Garden Renovation Projects

The 35th Annual Greater Olean Area Home and Garden Show welcomed more than 4,631 visitors April 18-20.  Eighty-four vendors were on hand to display and demonstrate products from hot tubs, to gardening and landscaping supplies, along with heating and cooling systems.  The event, hosted by Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, was co-sponsored by their forty-one corporate sponsors.

“This was a great exposure for Wedge Realty.  We saw many faces which gave Wedge’s name great exposure.  The response from those attending our booth indicates a good summer,” reported Keith Wedge from Wedge Realty.  “It was a great networking with those in attendance - customers and vendors,” added Coni Coletti of On Location Photography.

The vendors at the Home and Garden Show were enrolled in a contest for “Best Booth.”  The vendor booths were judged based on neatness, presentation, props, information, and theme-related.  The theme this year is “Remodel, Restore, Renovate.”  Winners for 2008 Greater Olean Area Home and Garden Show go to FIRST PLACE - Hamed’s Electric, SECOND PLACE - Dr. Greenlawn, THIRD PLACE - Wayne Companies; and HONORABLE MENTION went to Graham’s Landscaping. 

The winner of the Times Herald/Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Home Depot of Olean Home Show Grand Prize was Jon Hamed of Olean, NY.  The wheelbarrow is filled with gardening tools -- electric edge trimmer, a chain saw, a Black and Decker Grass Shearer, and a Black and Decker Surface Sweeper with a retail value $40).  The winners of the Vendor Visit Promo were Bebs Macatol of Allegany, NY for the truck load of mulch from Handy Hamed’s; Rich Ehman of Great Valley, NY for the two outdoor lafuma recliner chairs from Owl Homes; Sue Lananger of Bolivar, NY with Alpaca Sweater from WePaca Punch Alpacas, Craig Sinesious of Cuba, NY with an Emergency Kit from the American Red Cross; Julie Cottone of Olean, NY with  pool tan tub from Jacques Spas and Pools; and Patty St. Clair of Olean, NY with a $50 Shop Olean Gift Certificate.  For those who won, please contact the Chamber office regarding your prize.

“Although Saturday’s weather kept many people outside and not at the home show (attendance was down 1,100 from last year), the vendors did a phenomenal job with their exhibits, the show attendees were pleased with the selection (and number) of vendors, even the children were pleased at the Show with the Olean Family YMCA KidZone!”  stated Nancy Morgan, Chamber’s Member Services Coordinator.
