The Threat of Rain was a Blessing in Disguise
 

The Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball in Olean was a SLAM DUNK SUCCESS!  Two hundred ninety four teams played this weekend.  The tournament had 1,176 registered players.

“Olean’s 4th Gus Macker went off without a hitch once again – the rainy weather had us shortening up the game times and points Sunday, but all courts completed by 2:45 PM – record time.  Although we continue to see a decrease for top women’s, Olean’s tournament maintained numbers (294 teams both in 2010 and 2011) for the second year in a row – great accomplishment,” stated Meme Yanetsko, Gus Macker Olean Co-Chair.

For the fourth year in a row, basketball lovers traveled the Southern Tier and played in three Gus Macker Tournaments – Warren (June), Hornell (July), and Olean. The three Gus Mackers and Community Bank, NA sponsored the 3 on 3 by THREE TOUR THE WHO.  The WHO recognized FIFTY-FOUR players who participated in the 3 tournaments in the Southern Tier.

Friday night, the Sports Locker Sponsors Corporate Cup tourney began, but with the rain and thunderstorms that evening, it finished up on Sunday.  Eleven teams entered this single elimination 3-on-3 Tournament.  The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce Team beat out three other teams to win the title.

David Carucci, Co-Chair of Gus Macker Olean, stated, “Our committee wants to thank the City of Olean, Mayor Linda Witte, Tom Windus with Public Works, Bob Fox and their staffs for all that they did to pull off this great event.”  Carucci added, “The referees and all the volunteers -- hats off to them -- we couldn’t do this event with out the help of more than 250 volunteers.”
