FORREST NUTTERMAN

Status: ON DISPLAY

Artist: Char Szabo-Perricelli

Sponsor:

Location: Lincoln Park

In The Artist’s Words: "Forrest Nutterman" is the embodiment of the ecologist, Nature-lover and environmentalist in us. He is not a squirrel who is greedily collecting and hoarding pine cones and acorns for his own personal winter stores. Rather, he's gathered seeds and nuts to plant trees and flowers for pollinators to support and maintain a healthy ecosystem.

Everything about him is a visual representation of bio-awareness. He is a fuzzy and leaf-tailed friend of the Earth, actively participating in nurturing and caring for the planet. Although he's fanciful, whimsical and makes one smile, his presence will also hopefully promote these invaluable ideas to all who look at him and open up a conversation about how we all can play an active role in preserving our natural resources and all living things which are vital to sustainability.

The sad plight of pollinators such as bees, butterflies and bats as well as world-wide deforestation are critical, teach-worthy topics for conversations to be had. This is perhaps most important in classrooms and even at dinner tables. Children and young people are the beginning of awareness turned into action as they are the future wards of the Earth and they will determine its health and future.

When you visit Forrest, give him a soft pat on the head to thank him and wish him luck and success in his very important endeavors. And maybe even make a promise to help him carry out his work and share his message.
